FAQ

How is sciatica diagnosed?

If you think you have sciatica, you should visit your doctor, who will take the history of your symptoms. Based on the history they are usually able to diagnose your sciatica. They may refer you to a specialist if your symptoms persist for an extended period or there are any other complicating factors.

What treatments are available from my doctor?

The treatment protocol is the same as if you had low back pain without sciatic pain symptoms. You will generally be recommended physiotherapy and over the counter pain relief. If the pain is more severe you may be prescribed analgesic pain relief medication.

What is the Sciatic Pain Relief Cushion?

The Sciatic Pain Relief Cushion is a class 1 medical device that relieves the pressure on the sciatic nerve while sitting allowing it space and time to heal.

How does it work?

By placing the cushion on your seat every time you sit you are able to stretch your sciatic nerve whilst reducing the increased pressure the nerve experiences during sitting. It's easy to use and safe.

How big are the cushions?

The dimensions of the cushions are given on the 'Additional Information' tab on the product page. The Home/Office cushion is 43cm x 43cm x 7cm deep and the Car/Travel cushion is 38cm x 38cm x 6cm deep

How do the cushions affect posture while sitting?

The Home/Office cushion is large enough to provide enough seating area so as not to feel unbalanced. For example if the affected side is the left side and you feel you are leaning to the left if you move to the right to feel more balanced you will still be sat with space lateral to the sitting bone (ischial tuberosity) where the sciatic nerve passes. Slight lowering of the pelvis on the left-handside may be beneficial for nerve impingement on the left hand-side as this is direction required to open up space between vertebrae.

Is it proven to work?

The Sciatic Pain Relief Cushion has been beta-tested during its development and in trials with over 50 users and received 93% approval rating in user testing.

How often do I have to use the cushion?

Use the cushion as frequently as you can while sitting. Consistent use will give the best results.

Will other people notice I am using it?

The Sciatic Pain Relief Cushion is designed to be discrete so you can take it with you when you are out and about and use it without drawing attention to yourself. That said if it helps you to relax a bit more by reducing your pain who cares if people see it.
